William Powell AM accepts major petition against controversial Saundersfoot waste facility
William Powell, Chair of the National Assembly for Wales' Petitions Committee has today accepted a petition from over 4,000 opponents of the construction of a new civic amenity - civic waste facility only 30 metres away from Brooklands Nursing Home in Saundersfoot, Pembrokeshire.
William Powell, Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Member for Mid and West Wales, said:
"It is a great pleasure to accept this petition from Brooklands Nursing Home today. It is essential that the concerns of affected residents are fully considered when the location of such facilities is decided upon. The fact that residents' families, staff members and supporters from far and wide have created this petition demonstrates the degree of concern that this has not effectively occurred in this case. The Committee will now proceed to giving this Petition full and urgent attention.
The National Assembly for Wales' Petitions Committee provides a genuine opportunity for individuals, communities and organisations to raise their concerns with the Assembly and Welsh Government. I urge anyone with such concerns to contact either myself or Committee officials should they require further information on how to start an admissible petition."
Petitioner Darren Umanee added:
"I would like to extend my thanks to William Powell AM and the Petitions Committee for meeting with us today and accepting our petition. I hope that with their support Pembrokeshire County Council will take account of our concerns and rethink their proposal."
We call on the National Assembly of Wales to urge the Welsh Government to consider if residents of Brooklands Nursing Home would have their human rights infringed by the siting of the civic amenity site 30 metres from the home.
Staff and relatives of clients at Brooklands are very unhappy. The council are proposing to put the Civic amenities from Tenby adjacent to Brooklands Nursing Home. We strongly feel that their last days should be spent enjoying peace and tranquillity and not be disrupted with noise, pollution, traffic disruption, disruption from seagulls etc. Our clients are vulnerable adults who are unable to voice their opinion and so they need your help. Would you like to spend the rest of your days with the tip as your neighbour? We wouldn't. Please help with our petition and sign below.
