Ceredigion County Council failing to address Day Centre concerns – William Powell AM

2012 Hydref 4 9:49 AM

William Powell, Chair of the National Assembly for Wales' Petitions Committee, has criticized Ceredigion County Council for failing to address a number of concerns outlined to them regarding the new Day Centre in the former Aberystwyth Town Hall basement.

William Powell, Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Member for Mid and West Wales, said:

"Last June, as part of the Petitions Committee visit to Aberystwyth, Ceredigion County Council organized a tour of the facility and lunch with service users. In the light of concerns expressed to Committee Members I wrote to Cllr Ellen ap Gwynn to outline a series of concerns which were raised by the centre's users.

These concerns covered the poor access to the Centre as a result of an ramp exposed to the elements; the exclusion of non-referred service users, and the clear lack of bathing facilities which had resulted in users claiming that they had gone many weeks without a bath.

Unfortunately, Ceredigion County Council has failed to address these points in their response to the Committee and we have written to them again requesting specific answers.

Ceredigion County Council must not be allowed to 'dodge the bullet' on this important issue. My Committee colleagues and I will continue to press them for proper answers which fully address the concerns of both the Day Centre's service users and those who led the petition."
