PRAISE FOR PUMLUMON PROJECT

August 18, 2011 3:13 PM

William Powell, Lib Dem AM for Mid and West Wales, has welcomed the first issue of the Pumlumon Project e-newsletter.

The newsletter, which will be issued quarterly, is being published by Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust in order to ensure that the public is regularly updated on the progress of the Pumlumon Project.

William Powell AM says: "We must act to preserve our beautiful countryside and to restore declining biodiversity. However, the future of farming and of the rural economy is also of vital importance.

"The Pumlumon project is an exciting attempt to solve the environmental and economic problems of upland areas in Wales. The project aims to create partnerships between conservation, farming, forestry and tourism interests.

"I am really impressed by the effort Wildlife Trusts Wales and Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust are going to in order to educate the public about their work. The new e-newsletter gives an excellent insight into the Pumlumon Project and should really help to spread the word about the fantastic work that is being done."

County Councillor Ken Harris, Cabinet Member for Waste, Climate Change, and Welsh Language, added: "As a former resident of Montgomeryshire, I'm very pleased to see this initial issue of the Pumlumon Project e-newsletter.

"Even though it's specifically for the area concerned, its support for Tourism is very welcome as an aid to the local economy and I can foresee a spin-off into other adjacent areas of Powys and Mid Wales. Its wider impact onto such areas as agriculture and so on also adds to the sustainability agenda."
