Valentine’s Day… A load of Rubbish

February 14, 2012 3:00 PM

Local Liberal Democrat campaigner Rob Harper spends Valentine's Day cleaning up the streets of Churchstoke with a team of local volunteers lead by Tidy Wales. The team of litter pickers spent several hours clearing up rubbish that had blown across the village, filling 12 bags ready for the council to collect.

Rob Harper commented, "This is a superb effort both from the number of volunteers who helped and the volume that they collected. I would like to thank everyone who came for both their hard work and community spirit. This is the sort of collective community endeavor that makes Churchstoke a wonderful community. I will be organizing further local litter picks with Tidy Wales as the volunteers found the day fun, educating and fulfilling. We had a great deal of young families give up their precious half term time. I would also pay tribute to our neighboring Shropshire County Councillors Heather Kidd and Charlotte Barnes, who joined us for the morning."

Cllr Charlotte Barnes stated, "It was great to take part in a cross border activity and encouraging to see young members of a community work hard to achieve a clean and tidy countryside."

The atmosphere as Rob met with residents along the litter trail was very supportive and humbling, as a result of the success achieved on today's pick, Rob will work more with Tidy Wales to clean out the layby's on the stretch of road from Churchstoke towards Snead.
