William Powell AM, Welsh Liberal Democrat Spokesperson for Environment and Sustainable Development, took time yesterday to test drive a new hydrogen powered car as part of the European Hydrogen Road Tour.
William Powell, Regional Assembly Member for Mid and West Wales, said:
"The hydrogen fuel cell is a remarkable piece of technology which provides emission free transport with only pure water as a byproduct. The additional benefit of a near 400KM range is also very appealing given the relative limitations of the present electric market.
However, we are still a significant distance away from such hydrogen vehicles becoming a common site on our roads. Without a safe and effective refueling infrastructure, along with a substantial reduction in costs, it is clear that hydrogen power has a tough battle ahead to compete with electric and hybrid alternatives.
It is essential for all of us to play our part in reducing Wales' carbon footprint. Personal transport, especially in rural areas, must have a roll in this and I hope to see many more similar alternatively fueled vehicles in the near future."
