William Powell, Welsh Liberal Democrat Spokesperson for Rural Affairs, has expressed deep concern for Welsh Pig farmers following figures published by Meat Promotion Wales (MPW).
William Powell, Regional Assembly Member for Mid an West Wales, said:
"The fact that the number of pigs in Wales has more than halved since 2000 is deeply concerning. Welsh farmers are facing an increasingly difficult situation as their feeds costs are rising far faster than the market value of their produce.
Government, be it in Cardiff, Westminster or Brussels must do more to support this important Welsh industry and ensure its future survival.
As a member of the National Assembly for Wales' CAP Task and Finish Group, I will campaign for further reform to safeguard this vital sector."
