William Powell AM calls on Welsh Health Minister to visit Tenby Minor Injuries Unit
William Powell, Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Member for Mid and West Wales, has called on Lesley Griffiths AM, Minister for Health and Social Services, to take time out of her schedule to visit Tenby Minor Injuries Unit which is presently under threat of closure by Hywel Dda LHB.
William Powell, Chair of the National Assembly for Wales' Petitions Committee, said:
"The future of Tenby Minor Injuries Unit is in doubt thanks to Hywel Dda's proposals to reorganise health care delivery across South West Wales. Given that the Minister is ultimately responsible for health care across Wales, it is essential that she takes the time to experience the central role minor injury units like Tenby play in rural healthcare.
Last week the Petitions Committee received a petition from a substantial number of local residents opposing the Centre's potential closure. Now that the Minister has agreed in principle to visit the Tenby Minor Injuries Unit, I hope that it will take place in the very near future."
We the undersigned strongly object to the proposals in the Hywel Dda Health Board Document Your Health/ Your Future, referring to closure of the Minor Injuries Unit in Tenby. We call on the National Assembly of Wales to ensure the proposals set out in the Hywel Dda Health Board Document are not carried out and that the MIU in Tenby remains open.
