Green sector must be placed at the heart of Welsh economic growth – William Powell AM

May 21, 2013 5:12 PM

William Powell AM, Welsh Liberal Democrat Spokesperson for Energy and Environment, has called on the Welsh Government to ensure that the green sector is rooted at the heart of Wales' economic growth strategy.

William Powell AM, Mid and West Wales, said:

"The green sector has seen phenomenal growth in recent years despite the economic challenges the UK has been forced to endure.

"Wales needs to take full advantage of the resources it has at its disposal and ensure that the green sector is placed at the very heart of any strategies for economic growth.

"As both national significant and small scale community projects continue to be developed across Wales the Welsh Government must work closely with our educational institutions to ensure that suitable courses are being offered to students who wish to forge careers in the sector, and that apprenticeships are on offer once they are ready to enter the work place.

"Furthermore, the Welsh Government must fully support developers in seeking to build up a full and competitive supply chain for Wales. In doing so we can ensure that the trickle down economic benefits of the green sector are kept within Wales as much as possible; thereby maximising the jobs they create."
