William Powell AM Supports New Llandeilo Regeneration Initiative

September 13, 2013 10:19 AM

Welsh Liberal Democrat Regional Assembly Member for Mid & West Wales, William Powell, has today pledged his support to a new group aiming to regenerate Llandeilo.

The Group was formed after a meeting of the local business community. The aim is to come up with proposals to revive the local economy and breathe new life into the Town.

William Powell AM, said:

"I am delighted to support this initiative led by local businesses. Llandeilo is a wonderful town and it's very important that everyone in the community pulls together to secure its future. Market towns need to re-think how they are going to thrive in the modern economy. More and more people are buying on-line. Added to this is the impact of the supermarkets on high street shops."

He added:

"All this means we need new thinking if our market towns are not to decline with the huge problems this will bring. Welsh Liberal Democrats are determined to ensure the revival and success of market towns like Llandeilo. We all need to think about how best to use the assets and resources in each town.

"I believe that Llandeilo is well placed to meet the challenges by becoming both a 'must visit' destination and a hub for small businesses. This will help to create new local jobs, especially for young people."

The initiative has also been supported by local entrepreneur, Simon Buckley, who is Chief Executive of the award winning Llandeilo-based Brewery, Evan-Evans.

Simon Buckley said:

"This is a much needed initiative from the local business community. We need to secure the long term prosperity of Llandeilo for everyone in the local community. Evan-Evans will certainly want to get involved once the Group has developed its ideas."
