Medical Science Advance Helps Montgomeryshire Patients

February 15, 2016 4:25 PM

William Powell AM for Mid & West Wales was delighted to find that elderly pacemaker patients from Montgomeryshire are able to have Pacemaker scanners at home after visiting the Princes Royal Hospital in Telford.

William Powell AM, said

"My Constituent was impressed that this stops a three hour plus round trip from Montgomeryshire and saves on parking and fuel. His 88 year old Mother will no longer be exhausted by the trip. This is an excellent scheme - very good for the patient and prevents unnecessary appointments at the hospital. It appears to be win, win - a great idea!"

Jane Dodds, Welsh LIberal Democrat Assembly Candidate for Montgomeryshire, added

"This really is an advance and great for the patient but it is in no way a substitute for an Urgent Medical Centre in Montgomeryshire. We need both."

William Powell has made enquiries as to whether it would be even more cost effective to have these placed in Doctors Surgeries or our Community Hospitals. They do not need skilled staff to operate them but they are set specifically for the individual patient and so this is not possible.

Note: The Princess Royal Cardiology Department provided detail on the scheme.
